Dart Throwing Tips
Darts does require a great deal of practice and is definitely a game of skill. You will eventually develop your own stance, grip and style of throw.
You can try throwing in the styles of professional darts players but you should be able to find your own style eventually. You should feel comfortable both with the darts in your hands and standing at the oche, this will lead to better game results each time. You will achieve this eventually through constant practice and this alone.
We have listed below some basic darts throwing techniques/tips:
Solid and relaxed
Your grip on the dart should be firm, stable and should not put tension to the muscles of your fingers. Please remember that darts is a not a game of force but rather touch. To try and keep your touch, just grasp the dart loosely so as to maintain control when speeding up. Common errors from players are due to gripping the dart too firmly than loosely.
Finger coordination
More fingers will provide more regulation and control in gathering speed or acceleration and more feel, but makes releasing difficult as there are more fingers that has to be well coordinated. Finger coordination is an important point for release in your grip.
Barrel shape
Not all types of dart grips will be suitable or functional on different barrel shapes. Longer barrels compel a grip using more fingers and vice versa. You need to discover the right grip for you as well as the barrel that's right for you as well.
The stance
When aiming, players set the eye, the dart and the target in a line. When a player makes a throw he must try to place the three control routine of his arm in a plain of two dimensions. This decreases error by disregarding sideward actions of the arm.
Balance
Keep your balance foot on the floor at all times so lifting your balance leg when throwing is definately discouraged.
Leaning towards the board
This is a classic mistake, players think just because they are leaning closer towards the board they will hit the target easier, wrong. The more that you lean your body forward, the more unbalanced your throw will become. If you bend forward excessively, this will result to back strains in the long run. Practice and try to find a better position for throwing.
