How old were you when you first picked up a dart?

Nicknames are a big feature of a dart player so how did you get yours?
Steve Alker
Snakeman, Sid Waddell found out I keep snakes and started calling me snakeman and the name stuck.

How many hours do you practise throwing a day?
Steve Alker
I try to get 4 hours in but sometimes it varies from half hour to 5 or 6.

What is your favourite venue and why?
Steve Alker
Pontins, Prestatyn, Welsh Open weekend. It is a full weekend of darts with pairs on Friday, Welsh counties and mixed pairs on Saturday and the individuals on the Sunday.

Anybody human gets nervous before they play so how do you combat the nerves?
Steve Alker
I must admit I have a bit of alcohol to combat nerves. I usually get to a venue with 2 tins of superstrength inside me, which is enough to calm my nerves.

Who is your favourite player, past or current?
Steve Alker
I'll have to say Phil Taylor. I love to watch him play and also his professionalism.

What is a typical day in the life of you?
Steve Alker
I'll take my wife to work followed by my youngest stepdaughter to school. I'll try to get a couple of hours practice in the morning. When I've taken my wife back to work then I'll get another couple of hours practice. In the evenings I'll take the dog for a walk then chill out in front of the TV or go to a darts match.

Your best darting memory?
Steve Alker
My best memory is winning the Welsh Open. I only entered it for a day out, that win made me start playing competitions.

Your worst darting memory?
Steve Alker
Worst was in the Sweeden Open in 1998. I underestimated how strong the beer was the night before. I crawled out of bed with the mother of all hangovers half an hour before I played. Needless to say I didn't make it to the 2nd round!
